Life outside the blogoverse has impeded my quilting this week so I thought I would share these cute summer skirts that I made this spring for my 9 year old niece.
The pattern is from the Summer 2008 Issue of BHG Quilts and More and is designed by Tanya Whelan of Grand Revival. (I just saw issues still listed here.) The magazine pattern is for sizes 3/4 up to 9/10.
My niece is thin as thin but on the taller side so I used the waist/circumference measurements of a size 7/8 and the height measurements of a size 9/10. By doing this I was able to stick to just two coordinating 1/2 yard pieces for each skirt. I made one skirt from a Joel Dewberry fabric combination from my stash and the other was from some clearance bolts at this LQS. I also added a bit of lace to each skirt... the first one I forgot to incorporate attaching the lace with the narrow hem top stitching so a seam ripper was involved!
These were a super fast gift to sew... and I think well liked by my niece which is the most important part.
