Here is my first block for the Wonky Log Cabin Quilt Along. Despite using some stash that is not in favor, I'm pretty happy with the results.
With all the plaids and stripes, I cut each fat quarter individually which was rather time consuming, in particular since many of the prints were not straight with the world. I have also discovered that I don't like the woven brushed cottons. They stretch so easily that they often seemed distorted while cutting and I think they are the culprit of my one outer borders that looks wavy - next to the red stripe.
One mistake that I made was to not cut the second to last round of logs down enough, which resulted in a very narrow outer round. I actually cut the block to 13" to make the situation not quite so obvious, then still cut the outer block to the 15.5" making a more narrow sashing. I think this aqua cotton has more of a visual weight that a white sashing, so I think in the long run when all the blocks are together I will be happy that the sashing is narrower. (Nice way to rationalize an error, don't you think?)
To check out our group on Flickr click here. I'm still plugging along on the 2nd round zig zag and this wonky log round as are a few others so you'll see a nice assortment of beautiful quilts & blocks.
