Radio KPMK & Houston Favs

I first discovered Pam Kitty Morning's blog last spring during Quilt Market... she did a fabulous job of covering the events with lots of fun included. Monica at Happy Zombie came up with the idea of everyone blogging at market to link up to Pam's blog so us NMG can get the scoop in one spot. What an awesome idea! So you can go to Pam's blog to get your own button or just get the news by clicking on the button on the right side here on my blog.

I am not going to the Quilt Festival this year (Market is wholesale, Festival is after market and is open to public)... since I'm a newbie I think I need to learn and do a bit more to appreciate all that I would see. (Also the fact that is is during fall break & pheasant hunting doesn't help me!) I went to Quilt Festival 9 years ago when we lived in the Houston area and I was into the primitive stitcheries. I was overloaded with excitement then, I can only imagine how I would react now...

As one of the NMG peeps, I thought I would share some of our favorite local establishments with the blogoverse in case anyone who reads this is going. (We lived in a northern suburb of Houston called The Woodlands for over 7 years - these were the without kids years, so we did actually got to go places!) I mentioned my favorite quilt store the other day, It's A Stitch. It is a wonderful store in Humble (Is that H silent? What do you think?) and even if you're not going, check out their website as clearance fabric always goes to 50% off right away... I still shop there frequently. If you are checking it out in person, there is a super short cut to IAH, which is only about 10 minutes away from the store.

Here are a few food institutions of Houston... not tremendously high end so you can save your $$$ for fabric. My all time fave is Pappadeaux Seafood, which is a cajun seafood restaurant. Really, anything with the name Pappas in it will be good and they have other variations as well... Pappasitos, Pappas BBQ. One of my husbands favs was Goode Co BBQ which is close to the George R Brown. And there is nothing like a hot glazed Shipley donut in the morning for a sugar rush... If you're up for a bit of a road trip, check out Gaido's Seafood in Galveston...

So if you're going, I know you'll have a good time... the Festival will be great and Texas is awesome... just be sure to take a few pictures for your blog so you can share with those of us NMG peeps back home.

And don't forget the Blogger's Quilt Festival starts this Friday. Check out Amy's blog for more info!.
