Tired of Too Many Socks

I don't know how the laundry goes at your house, but at mine it seems the odd socks multiply like rabbits in the basket on top of my dryer and I don't really do anything about it until the basket is overflowing, and the whole household is out of socks by this time.

In the interest of organization and control I came up with the idea to put each persons odd socks in a separate bag, and then it would be easy as new odd socks are found to try to match them up each time. I realize the bag doesn't solve the whole problem, I need to follow through, but at least I am looking through one persons socks for the match, rather than four peoples socks. Does this make any sense to you?

I sewed four colored coded mesh/cotton bags.

While they are nothing too creative, I am happy with the finishing construction...

...which includes flat felled and french seams leaving no unfinished edge exposed.

I like this idea although we have not been visited by the dreaded sock monster, my boys are notorious for not putting laundry in the hamper. One of these bags each could help solve this problem.

Carolyn
ps did my address come through to you ok? PC problems are rearing their ugly head in our house this week.

Oh! The gypsy sock dilemma. This is the bane of my husband's existence. Last weekend, he dug through the dark and light dirty baskets and did an entire load of socks ONLY so he could reunite all of the gypsy's. Your idea looks like a great one - let us know how it works out! You should be proud, the bags look fantastic.

I have a sock secret...since it is just me in the house it works.
Each pair of socks has a safety pin in the upper edge of one sock. When I take them off, I just pin them together. I NEVER have to sort socks, and there are no "lone rangers" to worry with. Occasionally one pin will open in the dryer...but it is nothing like sorting all of them.

I love your idea! We have sock issues at our house too. At the beginning of every school year - I clean out the kids sock drawers and start new. This usually solves the problem for a week or two. lol.
