Upcycled Patriotic Picnic Pinwheels

The Old Red Barn Quilt Along group has been working on pinwheels this time around. I decided to play along by making a picnic quilt out of some old bandanas, some older fabric of a questionable gene pool (JoAnns) and a bolt of chambray (the pottery barn basket liners that never were!).

Because pinwheels are directional, each bandana produced two different blocks as shown above in my test blocks...they will end up being 14" finished. Below are the fabrics I'll be using...the top three are quilt shop fabrics so I'll use those as needed to get to the right size...though I haven't decided on a final setting (sashing or not) or size!

If you'd like to join in, the instructions are on Dana's blog and you can see all the other pinwheels at the flickr group.

Cute idea for a picnic quilt. I love the colors in the bandanas :)

I thought about joining that one, but I am already working on another pinwheel quilt along.

The use of the chambry with the bandana is just fabulous. It will really make up nicely.
