Bloggers Quilt Festival

Old friends are the best in this case... My entry for the Bloggers Quilt Festival is made of 39 different prints from the out of print Girlfriends collection by Jennifer Paganelli for Freespirit and the Flamenco pattern by Pie in the Sky Quilts.

Inspired to start quilting by the quilt my mom made for my oldest son as a baby, I collected fabric for some time before I started quilting rather obsessively in the last year. The materials for this quilt were purchased as a kit from this store in Galveston several years ago. At that time, I chose this because I loved the bright modern fabrics and I love it for the same reason today. I also love value quilts, but am pretty sure I did not realize that is was one when I purchased the materials!

The fabrics were divided into warm and cool tones, and then made into pieced blocks of the same value. These blocks were then cut into quarter square triangles and re-assembled as half square triangles to finally create the final design of concentric warm and cool rectangles.

The back is pieces from a few Mod Girls & Girlfriends fabrics and I sewed them together to show the selvedge. This was a unique and fun pattern to make, but I am even more happy to be able to use and mark off as a finish for the Spring to Finish challenge!

Thank you to Amy for again hosting the Bloggers Quilt Festival...enjoy the rest of the quilts!

It's a real beauty! Nice job building that - I am always nervous of cutting blocks in half to resew...especially on the bias! It's gorgeous.
