Aster Manor Pop Out Picture Crazy Quilt

This is a Pop Out Picture Quilt that I made for in-laws on occasion of Mother's & Father's Day. It is essentially a 3 block table runner designed to hang on the wall and hold your developed snapshots. I used the Pop Out Picture Quilt #2 pattern by Jean Boyd and Aster Manor fabric line by 3 Sisters for Moda.

I did a few things different from the pattern, some intentional and some forgotten! I resized the photo opening to the true digital size (4x5.3) which is offered with Fuji processing. The little lip or flat piping that goes around each picture is supposed to be interfaced - I forgot this because I didn't read the pattern close enough. My openings are pretty tight fitting and I did spray & press the runner using Best Press so hopefully that will keep the edges crisp. The pattern calls for each block to be the photo with 3" of crazy quilt piecing around each side...this just seemed too wide in proportion to the photo to me so I cut it down to 1.5" finished and then added my borders.

In the end I was happy with the results...I think this makes a great grandparent gift. (Maybe for Urban Homegoods Swap, too with a fabric change?) And, I have a chance to see if I can remedy my mistakes the second time around - I'm making one for my parents this week before they arrive for a visit!

A friend of mine made me one with kitty cat fabric and asked me for pics of my kitties. Not Knowing what she was up to. I was surprised and loved it!! So yes, this does make a great gift! I love how yours turned out!

Fantastic! You're right, this would be a great urban home goods swap item with some modern prints. What an awesome gift - I think I might swipe this plan for Christmas.
