Mon Ami: January La Petite Finish

Here is my Mon Ami which was January's Le Petite project.  Despite it being not my usual color pallet (It's a gift for my Mom.), I'm really quite taken with how striking it is.  This goes hand in hand with one of the reasons I love our monthly sew alongs,  even though we are all making an item from the same pattern, with different colors, fabrics and arrangements, each is uniquely wonderful.  With that said, be sure to check out the parades at Sherri's and Sinta's blogs.

Of course I had planned on having the completed quilt to share, but I've had a few challenges with the quilting that has resulted with a fair amount of time spent with my seam ripper.  So let me share that I do not recommend Fairfield's 80/20 batting.  I purchased a small crib size piece to try out as this type of batting is about the only cotton batting I can get at my JoAnns in a king size (which I would need for a few queen size quilts I'm planning on making).  Normally I wouldn't try something new on a gift for someone else, but I started pinning this late at night and didn't want to wait to prewash/dry my warm & white.   After checking many factors and perfect test squares with warm & white and bamboo batting... I now know the culprit (and the solution!).

I love your quilt top, it is so pretty. I have only used warm and natural and bamboo batting. I kind of like warm better than bamboo.

It is so beautiful, the colours are amazing. I really like the split geese in the inner border - very effective! I've never tried Fairfield batting...sorry to hear you had to rip out, that's no fun.

Your Mon Ami is soooo pretty. Very striking!! The fabric is gorgeous. Not in my usual color palette either, but I love it! So please tell me more of why you didn't like the Fairfield. I didn't care for it either. I actually used it in my Mon Ami, which now I wish I had not. I had some around to practice with and just cut a piece out to use. Oh well...we all learn from mistakes! :-)

Have you tried buying batting off of the roll at JoAnns? I buy a ton of Warm and White off the roll and cut the sizes I need. What was giving you the problem? Your Mon Ami is beautiful! I love the fabrics you used :)
