Made with Love by Grandma: Part 2

My mom made a quilt for my oldest son when he was first born.  When I was expecting my second I wanted to wait to see if it would be a boy or girl, and then ultimately decided I'd like a bigger quilt for a toddler bed since I had a crib size comforter & duvet.

We decided to using the existing inspiration fabric from the room, Alphabet Soup by American Folk & Fabric. From this inspiration fabric, we chose coordinating fabric for blocks and used Alex Anderson's Sampler Quilt as the base pattern, adding blocks to get to the desired size.

And here is the sham my mom made with leftover blocks.  William got this last year at Christmas as my mom was finishing the quilt.

Perhaps you remember what happened to this bed? Up in flames, literally. I saved the sham but the quilt would not have survived the ordeal unscathed. Prior to this my mom was feeling badly William didn't have his quilt yet, and I am so thankful he didn't...since he now has it as the perfect family room throw just his size.
