Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!

Thanks for stopping by for Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day!  I am giving away two charm packs of white Bella Solid by Moda.  This giveaway is open to international friends too.

I have always wanted to order a yard or so of every brand of quilting solid to compare side by side to pick out a "best one" but just have never done it. There are so different brands available: Kaufman Konas, Moda Bellas, Riley Blake, Freespirit, Michael Miller Couture Club and Dear Stella and possibly more?  I have used the Konas', which are a bit coarse and also Moda Bella and Riley Blake solids both of which seem ok?  But there are many others I haven't tried...

To enter the giveaway, just leave me a comment telling me which brands of solids you have tried and which is your favorite. This giveaway will be open until 5pm PST on Friday, May 10th. Be sure to check out all the other giveaways this week as listed on the Sew Mama Sew blog.  Thanks again for stopping by!

I always have a bolt of white and a bolt of black on hand - nothing better

Kelly said...

I have tried Bella solids, Klona and Kona. I now only use Kona solids :)

Amy Gunson said...

I've tried quite a few solids brands - Bella, Kona, Art Gallery, Michael Miller and Day in the Country. I like the silky feel of Art Gallery best, but love the color range in the other brands too. so hard to pick. Thanks for hosting a giveaway.

Ellyn said...

I mostly use the bella's too

Mary Grace McNamara said...

I have used Kona solids because I can get a lot of it in one cut using a good coupon from Joann's and have enough for several quilts or bag linings or whatever projects I am working on. The color selection is usually pretty good too for Kona at our local Joann's.

I mainly use Kona, because I can buy them at Joanns with a coupon. Thank you.

kbzelazny said...

Kona because it seems to be more readily available locally. Thanks so much!!

I often use Kona but I agree they're not the softests. I recently used an Art Gallery solid for the first time and it is lovely. thank you!

Katrin said...

I use Kona solids. Thanks!

Caroline said...

I know I've used Kona and Quilter's Cotton. But I've never paid attn to which I like better. I buy fabric because it fits into my project.

Slightly Off Quilter said...

I too tend to go with Kona simply because it is what is most easily available in my area, tho I have used Bella as well.

Amber H. said...

I mostly use Kona Cotton, mostly because the fabric store around the corner sells it. I've used Bella solids once, and I did like that quite a bit, but the store that sells it is slightly out of my 'driving comfort zone'.

Alisa said...

I like Kona, but have used other brands as well. Thank you for the wonderful give away chance!

Taryn said...

I've tried Kona, Michael Miller and Bella Solids. I think my quilts with Bella Solids and Michael Miller have been the softest! Kona is just so easy to find!

Brie said...

I have tried Kona! But it just depends on the color I need

Meredith said...

I have used Bella Solids, Art Gallery and Kona solids. I prefer the Bella Solids! Thanks for the giveaway!

I love kona:)

jane p said...

I have not tried any brand of solids. I buy generic ones of quilting cotton quality.

Tiffany said...

Kona is my go-to because it is the cheapest to find in so many colors and I can get some locally if I go up to lancaster, pa. Art Gallery has some great brights tho, their saturation is fantastic! Always love the moda pre-cuts tho ~ I use those a lot for white.

Lindsay said...

I have only tried Konas but I love them. They have so many colors.

Jennie said...

I've tried Kona, Riley Blake and Moda. Moda is my favorite. Riley Blake is soft but on the thinner side. Kona is yucky. Too coarse and papery feeling for my taste. I've got a Michael Miller color card and love the feel of it. Need to give it a try. I usually just order a bolt Bella white.

Jamie B said...

I haven't bought many solids; I'm addicted to prints. :)

Joy said...

Kona forever!!!

Camille said...

I've always used Kona because its been easily available. I've felt the Bella solids and they seem right on par with Kona. I've hear the cotton couture line is heavenly.

I have tried Oakshott cottons solids, thanks for the chance to win

I use a lot of kona, mostly because of the colors, but I recently finished a queen-size quilt top using bella solids, and I think I liked the feel of the fabric better, but I won't know until I wash them both up and see them side by side, you know? :)

Heather said...

I use Kona Cotton because I have the sample board which helps me pick just the right shade.

pennydog said...

I use Kona because of the colour options, Klona for the price and I have used Amy Butler solids on special offer which seem soft. Weeks Ringle recommends the RJR ones (I think I got that right)

Amber said...

I use Kona because... I always have. And I have a color card. But I agree that they're kinda scratchy.

Tiffany said...

I've only used Kona and the cheap stuff from Joann's. Although the Kona is a little heavy, it's not see-through, like the cheap stuff, so I still prefer it when I can get it.

LethargicLass said...

I pretty much use Kona (but Bella in charms)... I really want to try the Cotton Couture (is that right?) because they looks amazingly rich and soft... Art Gallery Pure as well...

Alli said...

I've tried Kona, Bella, and Pure Elements. I mostly buy Kona, but it's really only because I have the color card for it. :)

Jenna said...

I'm new to this, so I haven't used any of those listed! I would love to give them a try!

Miggsie said...

I'm a brand new quilter, so I haven't tried any of these brands yet, but I have purchased some Kona solids after hearing good things about them. I'd also like to try Cotton Couture. So many fabrics, so little time!!

Alyce Rodriguez said...

Cotton Couture has a very smooth, soft feeling to it, but Kona seems to be a little sturdier for piecing. Thanks! wonderlandbyalyce at gmail dot com

james and bess said...

i use the bella solids, mostly because that's what my local shop had, but they've pieced and quilted just fine in whatever i've used them in. :) fun giveaway!

I haven't actually tried any brands, as far as I know. Up til now I've gotten all my fabrics, solid or otherwise, at my local fabric store, with no idea who designed them. :)

Grace said...

I have only used Kaufman Kona solids and I since I have been so pleased with the Kona, I have not tried another brand.

teachpany said...

I have used Kona and Bella, and an older brand (carried in my friend's store) called Amish. I actually like that one best, but his colors are limited. I recently won a really wonderful solid from Hoffman, though. I think it's a lightweight twill. It's smooth, has wonderful drape, and it's wider. It might be PFD.

Kate said...

Ooh, that's a tough one. I usually use Kona - it's the easiest to get. But, I made a solids sampler from Bella and Michael Miller - the Bella is way softer than Kona, and the MM is coarser. But the MM is solid black, so maybe that's why?

Ella said...

I've mostly used Kona because it's easy to find, but the Belle solids are lovely.

Kim said...

I've used both Kona and Bella solids and I like them both. I use Kona most of the time, though, because I can find it locally. Our LQS doesn't carry very many solids.

Nicole said...

I usually use Konas but have always wanted to try the Bella solids

Marie Z. Johansen said...

Kona's have been "go to" brand, but I have been wanting to try these! I find that I am using far more solids now and fewer prints in my work. Thank you for the opportunity!

Cotton Couture is my favorite that I've tried so far, so so soft. Thank you!

Lindsay @ 402CenterStreet.blogspot.com said...

I've really only ever used the Kona's. We don't have much selection around here and solid colors are something I prefer to buy in person and not on-line.

Carla said...

I love solids with a little texture, like a linen (Essex regular or yarn-dyed), Quilter's Linen from Robert Kaufman, or Carolina Chambray. I have also used my share of Kona Snow! Those little charm packs would still certainly get used, probably for baby quilts :)

Chris S said...

I'm glad you asked this, it was nice reading others comments. I use kona because it's all I can get where i live and I have a color card. But the other day I pulled out my 1st quilt and remembered I had used Bella on it and oh my gosh, it is so much softer. I never realized the difference. It just seems thinner and it did fray more. I would like to try Cotton Couture.
