Around the World Blog Hop

Welcome to my turn of the Around the World Blog Hop.  I was asked by Mary on Lake Pulaski to participate, if you are not familiar with her blog please check it out.  I am in love with one of her most recent finishes, a hand pieced and quilted pouch for Yoko Saito quilt market booth, but she makes wonderful quilts and many creations for her grandchildren in addition to great bags.

Here are some of the questions I was asked to answer as part of the blog hop:

What am I working on?  I just finished a quilt top using Marcia Derse fabrics as shown in the post below, so I am now working on a back for that and plan to quilt it myself.  As you can see above, I have also started my own version of the ever popular Modern Maples quilt.  I am using my treasured Anna Maria Horner Good Folks Fabrics with a Robert Kaufman quilters linen in ivory metallic.  I love the little sparkle the metallic adds.

How does my work differ from others? I don't know that the projects differ but I do think I work with a pretty broad variety of projects compared to many.  This is where the Rugged & Refined portion of my blog name came from.

My husband has always wanted a denim quilt, and last year I finished a large quilt as you go denim quilt that is his favorite.

I enjoy modern quilts with large amounts of negative space and seeing the impact the quilting can have on the finished piece.

But I also enjoy traditional pieced blocks and fabrics, too.

And this is one of my most favorite pieces ever that to me wraps all of the above in one piece...and that mix of styles is what I most enjoy.

Why do I create what I do? This is pretty simple, some items are functional like the denim quilt, pjs for my kids or DIY upland hunting pants I made for my husband, some are decorative like seasonal runners and wall quilts and most are in between...there is nothing better than snuggling up with a quilt in the cold of winter.

I have asked two fellow Minneapolis Modern Quilt Guild members to play along on this Around the World Blog Hop...

Annik of Mini Mushrooms and I met at the second guild meeting quite sometime ago.  She makes fabulous bags and quilts and has a great eye for picking fabrics.

Kristin of A Little Crispy has absolutely mad piecing and designing skills.  I remember of the first meetings she came to and brought a quilt that she had hand dyed each fabric to the just perfect shade for a design she had created and executed flawlessly.

Please be sure to check out their blog posts next Monday, October 13th.  Thank you for stopping by!
