Friday Finish: Marcia Derse Strip Pieced Top

Last weekend the Minneapolis Modern Quilt Guild held a retreat.  I had prepped several projects to work on, but this Marcia Derse quilt was at the top my list.

It is a fat quarter friendly pattern by Cherri House from the April 2009 Quick Quilts Magazine.  Fabrics are strip pieced and then cut into rectangular blocks that form the columns with several columns then cut in half to alternate with the full width blocks.  It came together quickly, but as a heavy pinner, piecing the columns together slowed down my pace.

I purchased the fabric for this set of Marcia Derse fat quarters several years ago at Twin Cities Quilting and then added a few more prints.  Most of these fabrics are from the Third Line and Shoreline collections.

The weather here in Minnesota has not been photography friendly this week...we have had several days of rain and today the winds were gusting to over 40mph so I took a quick snapshot of the top hanging from my garage door rails...once the weather improves I'll have to update it with a better photo!

I am linking with Amanda Jean's Finish It Up Friday.

I really like it! It would make a fun scrap quilt too. So much fun!

What pretty colors! It looks like a fun one that would be fairly easy to strip piece.....my favorite for fast quilting.

Beautiful! This is my kind of quilt. Love the colours! How many fat quarters did you use for this?
